What to Do in a Dental Emergency

  • Knocked-out tooth

    Handle it by the crown (not the root), rinse gently if dirty, and try to place it back in the socket if possible. If not, keep it in milk or saliva and get to our clinic within 30–60 minutes for the best chance of saving it.

  • Severe toothache

    Rinse with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain relief if needed. Avoid placing aspirin directly on the gum or tooth. Call us as soon as possible.

  • Chipped or broken tooth

    Rinse your mouth with warm water, save any broken pieces if you can, and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Avoid chewing on that side until you're seen.

  • Lost filling or crown

    Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side. If you still have the crown, bring it with you — in some cases it can be reattached.
